This is the author's first book on the subject of thread counts and matching bobbin lace prickings. A historical overview of the handling of fineness determinations and an insight into the historical development of bobbin lace yarns and their presentation in the trade. It shows a new measuring method and how important this topic "thread size" was already in history and how it can be dealt with in a contemporary way. The measurement results in this book are related to yarns that were on the market until 1999. More recent yarns can be found in the book Lace threads in dD (see above) and in Martina Wolter-Kampmann's database. How did bobbin threads come into the trade in the past, what did the labels look like, what are skeins, balls and cross-wrapped presentations? This book explains the technical terms relating to bobbin threads and lace-making grids. A translation by Dr. Ann E. Wild of the original German title: Faden und Brief; Ein Zusammenspiel.
